Smalastúlkan
It happened west in Dalasýsla that a shepherd girl went to church and took communion. When she came from the church, she went immediately to herd sheep, and did not give herself time to eat beforehand. She walked along some cliffs.
Then she hears it said in the cliffs: "Ragnhildur of Rauðhamrar."
Then it is answered in other cliffs: "What do you want, giant of Þríhamrar?"
Then he says: "Here runs a roast along the path, let's take her, let's take her."
Then it is answered in the other cliffs: "Fie on her, let her go, she is sooty around the mouth."
The girl went her way, and heard no more of the conversation of this couple.

(Eptir sögn skólapilta að vestan, 1845.)
Það bar til vestur í Dalasýslu, að smalastúlka ein fór til kirkju og var til altaris. Þegar hún kom frá kirkjunni, fór hún undir eins að smala, og gaf sèr ekki tíma til að borða áður. Hún gekk með klettum nokkrum. Þá heyrir hún að sagt er í klettunum: „Ragnhildur í Rauðhömrum.“ Þá er svarað í öðrum klettum: „Hvað viltu, þussinn í Þríhömrum?“ Þá segir hann: „Hèr hleypur steik um stiga, tökum hana, tökum hana.“ Þá er svarað í hinum klettunum: „Svei henni, láttu hana fara, hún er kolug um kjaptinn.“ Stúlkan fór sinn veg, og heyrði ekki meira af samtali hjúa þessara.
