Björn & Sveinn

Are we friends? Nja...

Roots from Nordic lands. Björn and Sveinn are sometimes friends, sometimes not. Björn always wears his Viking hat, while Sveinn always wears his Christmas hat. They speak their own languages; sometimes they understand each other, and sometimes they do not.

This is Björn. His name changes from place to place. In English, Björn means 'bear,' but Björn is not a bear. He is a hundred-year-old kid who travels around the forests and lakes. He likes to play with animals—or fight with them.

This is Sveinn. He is probably Björn's best friend in the world, but he would never admit it. His name also changes from place to place. Most versions sound so similar that he can't even tell which is his real name. Never mind; he doesn't even care.

Their latest argument began at a birthday party. Usually, they don't celebrate birthdays. But they watched too many Shorts and videos online and found that many people in the world see it as a big day. They like big days—the more, the better. So, they made a plan and bought a cake.

However, they didn't know how old they were. Or, you could say, they were too old to remember the number. So, when they started to put candles on the cake, they started to fight over the number of candles.

(Dangerous actions, good kids never do that)

But a normal cake couldn't handle hundreds of candles. In the end, the cake was burned. No one won the fight. Björn and Sveinn stared at their cake and sighed. Björn looked at Sveinn for a moment and said, "I have prepared a birthday gift for you. I saw people do this on birthdays."

Sveinn lit up and took the gift from Björn. He was so happy that his hat said it all.

Björn looked at Sveinn. "Where is mine?" "What?" "My birthday gift." Björn's hand was waiting in the air.

"Hold on." Sveinn ran out of the house.

Three hours later, Sveinn ran back home, out of breath. "Here you are." "What is it?" Björn looked at the piece of wood with some holes in it.

Sveinn was so proud of his work and said, "This is a handmade wooden mask for you. To hide your serious face and make sure you always wear a friendly smile."

Well, how do Björn and Sveinn communicate in their daily lives? They kind of understand each other to a certain degree—maybe 60% or 70%? It depends on the situation and, probably, their emotions.

They travel a lot, and the languages they use change from time to time. They spend a lot of time exploring these places in their own way.

Sveinn loves to collect things. During their travels, he collects many pieces from locals and documents them in his diary. He also likes to share his collection with Björn. But sometimes Björn is too tired after fighting a bear and falls asleep.
