Anna á Bessastöðum
A short distance from the farmhouse at Bessastaðir is a landing place called Skansinn (The Sconce). Three boat crews were stationed there for fishing and they seldom came home [to the main farm], but a workwoman named Anna was there; she heated coffee for them in the mornings before they rowed out, and did other such tasks. One of the foremen was named Eiríkur, who had long been a farmhand at Bessastaðir, a man of superstitious nature.
One morning before daybreak, Anna came out intending to heat coffee for the lads. She then saw the 16 men coming toward her, all dripping wet from the sea. She thought this strange and called out to them: "Have you landed, lads?" but they answered nothing.
Then Anna went inside; and there were all the lads, having not yet rowed out, and not yet dressed in their fishing skins. She then says to them: "Do not row today, lads, I have seen your fetches." But they laughed at her, and all three crews rowed out.
Later in the day, Anna came home to Bessastaðir and said that things would not go well for the lads that day, and told of what she had seen, but the people asked her not to carry on with such nonsense. But during the day a deadly storm struck, and many crews were lost, and among them were those two boats whose men Anna had seen as fetches; but Eiríkur survived and saved many boats that day. Anna said this during the day before the weather struck, so this story has the advantage over other such stories that it is true.

Spottakorn frá bænum á Bessastöðum er skipalægi og heitir í Skansinum. Þar lágu 3 skipshafnir til útróðra og kómu sjaldan heim, en vinnukona, sem hèt Anna, var þar og heitti þeim kaffe á morgnana áður en þeir rèru, og annað þesskonar. Einn af formönnunum hèt Eiríkur, sem lengi var vinnumaður á Bessastöðum, forneskjumaður í lund. Einn morgin fyrir dag kom Anna út og ætlaði að fara að heita kaffe handa piltunum. Hún sá þá 16 mennina koma á móti sèr alla sjóvota. Henni þótti þetta kynlegt og kallaði á þá: „eruð þið lentir, piltar?“ en þeir svöruðu engu. Síðan fór Anna inn; og þar eru þá allir piltarnir órónir og óskinnklæddir. Hún segir þá við þá: „róið þið ekki í dag, piltar, eg hefi sèð fylgjurnar ykkar.“ En þeir hlóu að henni og rèru allar 3 skipshafnir. Um daginn kom Anna heim að Bessastöðum og sagði það mundi ekki fara vel fyrir piltunum í dag, og sagði frá hvað hún hafði sèð, en fólkið bað hana, að vera ekki að bullinu því arna. En um daginn gerði manndrápsbyl, og týndust margar skipshafnir, og þar á meðal þau tvö skip, sem Anna sá fylgjur mannanna; en Eirekur komst af og bjargaði mörgum skipum þann dag. Anna sagði þetta um daginn áður en veðrið brast á, svo þessi saga hefir það fram yfir aðrar slíkar að hún er sönn.
