The Plague Cave (Sóttarhellir)
Once, 18 people went mountain hiking from Fljótshlíð and sat down in a cave to rest. Looking out from the cave, they saw an ancient troll woman and mocked her. However, one of them took no part in this and tried to stop the others, though to no avail.
The troll woman then cast a curse upon them, so that a fatal plague immediately struck them all, except for the single person who had not offended the old woman. They all died in the cave, and it has since been called "Sóttarhellir" (Plague Cave).

Einu sinni fóru 18 manns í fjallgaungur úr Fljótshlíð og settust að í helli einum, til að hvíla sig. Sáu þeir þá út úr hellinum æfagamla tröllkonu og dróu dár að henni; en einn þeirra tók engan þátt í því, og leitaðist við að aptra hinum frá því, þó það kæmi fyrir ekki. Tröllkonan bað þeim þá bölbæna, svo að þegar tók drepsótt þá alla, nema þann einn, er ekki hafði móðgað kerlu. Þeir dóu allir í hellinum og heitir hann síðan „sóttarhellir.“
