Álfkonan hjá Bakkagerði
At Bakkagerði in Borgarfjörður, a certain couple lived; there were no other people there. Once, the farmer went away from home and did not return in the evening. That night, the woman felt labor pains and therefore lit a light. A little later, an unknown woman came in and offered to help her. The woman accepted that, and the other attended to her, bathed the child, swaddled it, and laid it in the bed beside the mother. Then she went away, and came back with a plate of meat. The meat was hot, and she placed the plate by the woman's side, did not speak, but walked away.
The woman did not dare to eat the meat, and she did not touch it. After a short time had passed, the unknown woman came, took the plate, and said: "It was safe for you to eat from the plate, and I think it would have done you little harm had you partaken; and you could have managed it so that it would have turned to good fortune for your child and you."
After that she went away, but it is people's guess that this woman lived in the Álfaborg (Elf-Rock) which is nearby there. But the woman at Bakkagerði never became aware of her from then on.

Á Bakkagerði í Borgarfirði bjuggu hjón nokkur; þar var ekki fleira manna. Eitt sinn fór bóndi heiman, og kom ekki heim um kvöldið. Þessa nótt kendi konan jóðsóttar, og kveykti því ljós. Litlu síðar kom inn ókend kona, og bauðst til að hjálpa henni. Konan þá það, og þjónaði hin henni, laugaði barnið, reifaði og lagði í rúm hjá móðurinni. Síðan fór hún burt, og kom aptur með kjötdisk. Kjötið var heitt, og lèt hún diskinn við hlíð konunnar, talaði ekki, en gekk burt.
Ekki þorði konan að eta kjötið, og snerti hún það ekki. Að litlum tíma liðnum kom ókenda konan, tók diskinn og sagði: „Óhætt var þèr að borða af diskinum, og lítið ætla eg að það mundi þèr að meini verða, þótt þú hefðir tiltekið, og svo máttir þú meðfara, að barni þínu og þèr hefði orðið að hamíngju.“ Eptir það fór hún burt, en það er gáta manna, að kona þessi hafi búið í álfaborginni, sem þar er nærri. En aldrei varð konan í Bakkagerði vör við hana upp frá því.
